As a business owner or leader, we probably do things that cause us to second guess ourselves or question our ability to keep going through tough times. It is a tough job where we need to be courageous to face challenges or to keep pushing forward fighting for our dreams. Courage is probably something you never thought as a requirement to lead a company, it wasn’t something that I thought about. Being a business owner takes courage, lots of it. There were days that it took all I had to go to work. There were meetings and stressful situations where I needed to step up and be a strong voice in our company, even though I didn’t know all the answers, but I knew enough.
I remember having the feeling of wanting to hide, be invisible and just disappear, but when you are the owner you need to be an advocate 100 % of the time and that takes courage. Courage to stand for what you believe to be right for your business and people. Courage to do the uncomfortable things for the sake of your livelihood.
We create great stories about why we can’t or shouldn’t take action or be an advocate for our business. These are stories we make up and being brave enough to persevere is what it takes to shift into being courageous.
This week notice where you pull back and then ask yourself the following questions:
- What do I fear the most in this situation and what is one step I could do that would take courage?
- What are 3 simple steps I can take this week to be courageous to move forward?
I promise taking the first step is the hardest. Each step, conversation, meeting, and presentation along the way gets easier. Each time you find that courageous voice, you will stand a little taller and start to feel in your groove.
I hope this information helps you!
